Olivia * Ying {Love is Love!}

Happy Valentine’s Day! I want to share with everyone this lovely fall wedding from last year. The girls Olivia and Ying traveled a long distance to get married here in Calgary. We were so excited to be able to photograph a same-sex wedding again. Olivia looked fantastic in her short ruffled dress and veil. Ying surprised everyone with polka dotted pants and tuxedo jacket. We were lucky enough to have fantastic sunset light that day. Loved how their day turned out. What more can we ask for!

Hope we can cover another same-sex marriage soon!

Lauren * Mike {Greek Wedding In Banff}

It sure has been some time since we last covered a traditional Greek wedding. Hands down one of our favorite ceremonies to photograph because of all the charming little traditions that go along with it. We have been looking forward to Lauren and Mike’s wedding all year. But this one is going to be even more colorful because Mike’s family is Scottish we will be seeing all the groomsmen in Scottish tartan.

Some of the groomsmen had never tried on kilts before so it was quite fun watching them figure it out. There is definitely an order to putting things on. And yes, the question about what to wear or not wear under the kilt came up a few times and a decision was made.

Lauren gave Mike a set of cuff links as a wedding present along with a lengthy handwritten note.

Love the ruffles on the Rivini wedding dress. The ruffles seem to cascade around Lauren as she walks. Lauren and her Mom exchange a hug after the cathedral length veil was put on. The bridesmaids have not see her dress yet. Lauren wanted it to be a surprise for them.

St. George’s-in-the-Pines Anglican Church is a historical church just off the main drag in Banff. This may be a small church but it has so much character and intimacy. Look at the stained glass windows and tapestries hanging off the walls.

One of the groomsmen hangs on to the wedding rings while Lauren and her father walk up the tiny aisle up towards the altar. Father Dimitrios Rougas will bless the rings at the beginning of the ceremony and the rings will be exchanged after that as part of the Greek Orthodox tradition. The crowns symbolize a number of things. One them represents the bride and groom being king and queen of their own home or kingdom.

Reception time in the Mount Stephen ballroom at the Fairmont Banff Springs hotel. The hotel being a Scottish design, we can say this is the Scottish part of the wedding. Just to fit in, I even wore a tartan tie to the occasion! Glad Mike’s dad noticed it. There were flowers everywhere. I like the idea of having multiple smaller centerpieces in different vases on each table. That made the tables look full and cozy. The floral arrangements were made by Lakeview Flowers

While the adults were entertained by the live band, the little guys had a corner to themselves with their new Lego sets. That day happened to also be Callum’s birthday so Lauren and Mike had a cake brought out for them as a surprise.

Lauren taunts the girls before flinging the bouquet perfectly towards the group. She then joined Mike for the first dance to kick off the dance. When the lights go down, you can really notice the chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. One of the many details that make this ballroom one of our favorite Rocky Mountain wedding venues.
