vegas

I’m pretty thrilled to share with you a short video our friends Casey and Danielle from MIND|Castle made for us when we were in Vegas last year. The pair of hotness in the video are Dave and Charlotte from Toronto who were engaged just a few days before this. We shot all of this in the old part of Vegas.

I blogged the images from the engagement session last year but here it is again with a few extras that I didn’t post before.

rose-mary and peter wedding

Last October, I blogged part of Rose-Mary and Peter’s wedding before heading out for Rome. Now here’s the entire wedding story from start to finish.

Rose-Mary is Italian and Peter is Greek. When the two were married by Father Rougas at the St. Demetrios, the entire ceremony was conducted in three languages to the delight of everyone (except Di and I couldn’t understand a single word!). Rose-Mary had on this incredibly detailed Rosa Clara dress with a cathedral length veil and matching bolero. The veil must have been about 12 feet long. But it went so well with the dress and fit right in with the feel of this church and the Greek wedding.

After the wedding ceremony, we had just a little bit of time for some outside photos before the rain started to hit and we had to head back. Rose-Mary had intended for the reception to have a Mediterranean feel and you can see that with the trailing ivy centerpieces they put together. Some relatives even brought pomegranates from Italy, which they placed around the cake.

Thanks, Rose-Mary and Peter. We had a great time at your wedding. We were still picking out rice in our gear weeks after the wedding! Have a great time in Argentina. We’ll talk soon!

{This is it! Our last wedding from 2009. What an amazing year it was for us. We have met so many wonderful people and shot in so many amazing places. Couldn’t have asked for more! From what I see, 2010 is going to be even more awesome. Looking forward to another great year. Thanks, everyone!}

weddingbells best 25

We still can’t believe Photobolic has been selected by Weddingbells Magazine to be one of 25 Best Photographers in Canada. There is so much talent in Canada and I can think of quite a few other photographers that should have made the list as well.

Furthermore, we can’t take the full credit for this. I think a lot of it should go to each and every one of our brides and grooms and the vendors that have worked together with us at every event. Without their hard work and creativity, there would be no beautiful cakes, flowers, dresses and veils to photograph. Thank you all!

Sergei Belski - Beautiful photographs! Love the colours!

first day of the first month

In 2009, more than half our weddings have been out of the city so we spent a bit of time in our car driving. One of the things I always do upon leaving the house is to play the song Stand By Me from the Playing For Change CD. Usually, I would blast it loud and start singing to it, much to the chagrin of Di, who thinks I’m insane. =)

The PFC concept was started by Mark Johnson who travelled around the world to record various artists performing the same song in their own ways. The music is then seamlessly melded together into a final version that is so rich with the personality and cultures of the performers. I think this is one song that is better experienced as a video because the songs were mostly recorded on the streets or neighborhoods where these artists live and perform.

The best part of this song was the performance by Grandpa Elliot. I actually saw him live while I was at New Orleans a few years ago (I didn’t know who he was at the time). He is one remarkable man. When he starts singing, you cannot help but stop and forget where you are going and what you are doing. Hopefully one day, I can see him perform live again.

You can read about the Playing For Change concept and buy their music on the web site www.playingforchange.com. Also visit their Vimeo channel to see more videos and additional documentary footage.

Thank you all for being here with us last year.  I hope this little number would get you as amped up about the new year as it does for me.

happy holidays – licking envelopes

2009 was a crazy year. So many wonderful things that I could never have imagined to happen had happened. So many fantastic people came into my life and left me with such amazing memories. How time flies when you are having fun – it’s time for Christmas cards again.

Two weeks ago, I started searching for some good quality letterpress cards with a simple design. When I found nothing, I decided to make our own instead. So I bought some blank cards and envelopes from Crane, laid out a simple design and ran them through our giclee printer. These cards are made from cotton, which has loads of alpha cellulose. I like them because they feel so good to the touch and have such an organic feel to it. Still not as good as letterpress but darn close.

While I’m at it, here’s a video I made of what today was like. It literally took me an entire day to get all the cards printed, written and stamped. I still have a few left over. if you want one, fire me off an email!

Enjoy and happy holidays!
