Jenn * Graeme {scottish rocky mountain wedding}

Many of us have visited the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel or even attended a wedding there. The hotel was designed in the Scottish baronial style which gave it the charming appearance of a castle. It was the the perfect venue for Jenn and Graeme’s Rocky Mountain wedding because Graeme is Scottish and they first met while Jenn was studying there.

One highlight of the wedding was Jenn’s Carolina Herrera wedding dress. It was a stunning piece which appeared to float in the air when Jenn walks around. With her matching veil, the dress complemented her perfectly and was a joy to photograph.

I loved how the veil floats behind Jenn when the wind blows, giving the impression of leaves rustling in the breeze.

Let’s get a photo of the bridesmaids with their purple dresses and bouquet and the groomsmen with their kilts and sporran. I believe sporrans are a necessary part of the attire because kilts have no pockets to contain hip flasks!

For some reason I always get excited when I see a bride with a cathedral length wedding veil. It really adds to the romanticism of the day.

This event was designed by the super amazing and talented Sheryl of Lynn Fletcher Weddings. She took the already beautiful Cascade Ballroom and transformed it into the dream wedding reception. Love the pattern lighting on the draping and centerpieces of varying heights. There was also a mix of round, square and communal style tables to make for an interesting layout

The tall centerpieces were built with curly willow and lots of orchids in the purple and white wedding colors. Silver charger plates and chairs rounded up the color theme.

The Dino Martinis got everyone off their seats to kick off the dancing. Any event with a live band scores extra points in our books!

Weddingbells The 25 Most Inspiring Wedding Photographers for 2013!

Wow, what a riot! I still can’t believe we made the list again this year. Weddingbells is Canada’s top resource for brides and grooms planning their perfect wedding day and what an honor to be selected by them to be one of Canada’s 25 Most Inspiring Wedding Photographers for 2013. There are so many great photographers that I look up to every day that didn’t make it on this list so I feel exceptionally privileged. This just makes me want to work even harder for all our clients. The pressure is on!

But like I have already said before, this is not about us. It really is about our clients who spent so much time planning their day and placed their trust in our work. It is also about the other vendors like wedding coordinators, venues, florists and others who toiled to make that day come alive. Without them, there’s just no way this can happen. So let me thank all our clients and vendors who supported us all the way in 2013. Thank you!

I also wish to thank Weddingbells for making us a part of this list. Such a privilege to be recognized by you! Click on the following link to see all the other photographers that also made it to that list.

stephanie {prairie bridal session}

Stephanie’s one shoulder Vera Wang wedding dress was one of my all time favorites. There is just something about the ruffles and folds in that wedding dress that make it so amazing. We both loved it so much that last fall we took a road trip into central Alberta to get some more photos of it.

After a few false starts, we ended up on the side of the road, half panicking because the sun was setting fast and we hadn’t even started shooting yet. I watched in amazement as Steph hopped a barbed wire fence in her cowboy boots and wedding dress and scrambled down a slope. I had no idea what was on the bottom and if there was even anything there we can use. Then the mosquitos swarmed us. We made do with what we had and snapped a few shots before it got dark. Kindda crazy but it’s been a while since we went out to shoot something without a clue as to where we were going to end up.

You can see more of this dress and Stephanie’s spring wedding at The Ranche here.
