We simply love shooting engagement sessions at the Lake Minnewanka near Banff.
It’s been a while since our last post. We had an incredible spring this year with arrival of our baby Maddox. So the blog has fallen by the wayside. But now wedding season is coming into full swing so there will be more wedding photos coming up over the next little while. Can’t wait to catch up with the blogging. I have a tonne of engagement photos to post!
Jessie and Navid were married late winter this year at the Kensington Riverside Inn. This property has been around for a long time but we have never had the chance to shoot a wedding there until recently. If you are a foodie, you may have heard of the acclaimed Chef’s Table restaurant which is located inside the Inn. The Inn is also a member of the Relais & Chateaux fellowship; only one of thirteen establishments in Canada to achieve this status. Great hospitality and fine dining were the reasons why Jessie and Navid was so excited to get married here.
The first thing I noticed was the modern interior design. I love how they have combined different textures and dark colors to create an intimate atmosphere. We started our day here in the guest rooms where they got ready. Jessie chose an open back lace wedding dress and wore her hair up. The slight train was totally appropriate for a modern wedding but gives a nod to tradition.
Due to their program schedule, we decided to get all our photos done before the ceremony. I had Navid wait across the street for Jessie. The best part about shooting in the winter is the lack of leaves on trees. Bare branches gave the photos a certain minimalistic feel. The red bricks and wood was contrasted by Jessie’s blue and white wedding bouquet and flowers.
Navid sees Jessie for the first time that day. What a wonderful moment.
The ceremony was held in the main lobby area of the Inn. This area would be reconfigured for cocktails and dancing later on that day. Everyone was looking forward to their reception dinner at Chef’s Table. The restaurant was one of the main reasons why Jessie and Navid chose this place for their wedding. I think it was the perfect choice for a small intimate wedding celebration.
Thanks, guys, for starting the 2014 wedding season off for us at such a lovely venue!
Happy Valentine’s Day! I want to share with everyone this lovely fall wedding from last year. The girls Olivia and Ying traveled a long distance to get married here in Calgary. We were so excited to be able to photograph a same-sex wedding again. Olivia looked fantastic in her short ruffled dress and veil. Ying surprised everyone with polka dotted pants and tuxedo jacket. We were lucky enough to have fantastic sunset light that day. Loved how their day turned out. What more can we ask for!
Hope we can cover another same-sex marriage soon!
The bouquet and boutonniere were created by Tracy@Occasional Bloom.
It’s that time of the year again! Until January 5, our little studio will be closed for the holiday season for a much needed vacation. We will still respond to emails during this time while we travel. Have a magical holidays and we can’t wait to see you in 2014!
