Weddingbells – 25 Most Inspiring Wedding Photographers of 2012

Like I’ve said on our Facebook page, we were selected to be one of the 25 most inspiring wedding photographers of 2012 by Weddingbells magazine. We are so proud to be mentioned by Weddingbells, which, in my opinion is a critical part of Canada’s wedding institution. I don’t know of any bride that has never seen or bought a copy of their magazine. I want to thank everyone at Weddinbells for this honor! Woo!

However, the real credit goes to all our brides and grooms and their vendors who invested great time and effort on their big day. Without them, there would be no dress, flowers, shoes, table settings, boutonnieres, shoes, stationery, linens, shoes, seat covers, centerpieces, shoes, hair pieces, marriage vows, prime rib, dancing, shoes, invites and other interesting things for us to photograph. It has always been a team effort. Thank you everyone and congratulations to all the other photographers on this list!

Have you picked up a copy of Avenue or Weddingbells lately? If so, you may have seen two of our 2011 weddings between the covers. In Avenue, we have Tim and Marta’s western hoe-down wedding at the Shawnessy Barn in Calgary. Weddingbells featured Kathryn & Aleksei’s DIY wedding under the Calgary section. Aren’t we so fortunate to have such creative clients?

Two of our weddings were featured in the current issue Weddingbells. This issue is out now, so go grab your copy!

Sarah and Hayden’s tent wedding at Spruce Meadows was featured in the national issue of Weddingbells. Sarah and her mom Kris described their wedding as “from the heart” using found or vintage objects and simple DIY goodness. We loved it very much. Everything turned out better than perfect. Just before Christmas, Yvonne and Tim’s rustic wedding at The Ranche was featured on The Knot web site. It was one of the smallest weddings we have ever done. In fact, it felt more like a dinner party of best friends and family. And we loved every moment of it. From the ipod speaker blasting All I Want Is You by Barry Louis Polisar to the birds on the pink ruffle cake. Thank you to The Knot for featuring this wedding but more than anything, thanks Yvonne and Tim!

vintage holiday cards collection – design aglow

We were pleasantly surprised to find a short article about us and a photo of Kara and Lawrence in the current issue of Weddingbells (fall/winter 2010). This is Weddingbells’ 25th anniversary, a remarkable achievement for any publication. I think every bride-to-be has a copy of Weddingbells. We still have ours from 2000 when the two of us got married.

We still can’t believe Photobolic has been selected by Weddingbells Magazine to be one of 25 Best Photographers in Canada. There is so much talent in Canada and I can think of quite a few other photographers that should have made the list as well.

Furthermore, we can’t take the full credit for this. I think a lot of it should go to each and every one of our brides and grooms and the vendors that have worked together with us at every event. Without their hard work and creativity, there would be no beautiful cakes, flowers, dresses and veils to photograph. Thank you all!

Last month, we had the awesome pleasure to meet Sandi and Andrew and document their marriage on an island near Canmore. They had come all the way from Australia to get married because same-sex marriage has not yet been recognized there. This was the smallest wedding we have ever photographed. So small that Di and I were actually the witnesses and had to sign on Andrew and Sandi’s marriage papers. We were both so happy and proud to be with the two that day. Totally ranked up there in awesomeness.

And on top, we were so pleased and giggly when Kelly Prizel from So You’re EnGAYed contacted me and said they would love to feature their photos on her site. Her site is actually an online community that matches wedding resources that support same-sex couples to help them with their wedding planning process. Kelly is a photographer as well and you can see her work on her site www.kellyprizel.com.
