charlene and jared {fall wedding in canmore}

Jared and Charlene had their wedding at Silvertip in Canmore last weekend. This time of the year, the golf courses are mostly closed for the season even though the temperatures make it warm enough to play. It was a fine day and they were able to have their ceremony outdoors overlooking the Rockies amidst trees that were mostly bare of leaves and what fall colors that are left. We brought the wedding party down to the river valley for pictures after the ceremony. There was an old railway bridge that was converted for pedestrian use over the Bow River which was a nice backdrop for us. After shooting Candace and Lewis’ wedding photos there a few years back, that place became my favorite location in Canmore for pictures in the fall.

Their lovebird themed reception was designed with the help of Charlene’s twin sister Deanna. They had lovebirds everywhere, from their invites to the favors and even birds nests on the centerpieces. Each guest had their photos taken with an Instax camera during cocktails and signed their well wishes on cards hung on twine.

I really do love this time of the year and I feel bittersweet that the warm weather will soon be behind us and out comes scarves and mittens. Thanks, Charlene and Jared for sharing with us your day and this great finale to our summer wedding season!

carrie and gergely {diy eco-vintage wedding}

Carrie and Gergely had this fabulous idea of having an eco-friendly wedding. Everything they conceived was intended to leave the lowest carbon footprint. What that means is a lot of creativity in their minimal use of materials and reusing of things they already have. For example, she wore a vintage dress and the wedding party wore clothes that they already own. Their food was also sourced locally (100 mile diet) and flowers were picked from the prairies and dried months before.

During the last year, Carrie and I exchanged many emails as she tells me about her plans and ideas. As we got closer and closer, she said her home practically turned into a crafts workshop. I understood that statement when I finally got to see everything first hand. My jaw dropped at the richness of their details. This is one bride that had a vision and followed through to the fullest extent. We are so fortunate to have the opportunity to be there on this special day and see all this come to fruition. This clearly shows that an eco-wedding doesn’t have to be about deep compromises. We took a tonne of photos that day and I wish I could blog every single nitty gritty but this post would be much too long!!

andrew and sandi wedding

Andrew and Sandi came all the way here from Australia to have their wedding near Canmore. The plan was to hitch a helicopter ride with Rick Kunelius and get married on top of a mountain. However, we ended up landing on an island in the middle of the lake due to the weather. There were only the two of us and Rick so Di and I had the pleasure of being witnesses. I’m so glad we were able to spend this day with them. It is a wedding neither of us will ever forget.

megan and hans wedding

Hans and I used to work together a few years back. At the time, he was also interested in photography and we often talked about cameras and gear and stuff at work. When he and Megan decided to get married, we were so pleased that Hans contacted us to photograph his wedding.

The pair got married at Silvertip Resort. It’s one of the nicer golf courses nestled in Canmore. We got a chance to head into the Canmore townsite to get some pictures near the river before the ceremony at Silvertip. It was sunny and bright out, perfect for an outdoor wedding at the wedding pavilion.

Thanks for having us, guys. We’re so happy for you two and I can’t wait to finish the rest of your images.

kara and lawrence wedding

Kara and Lawrence had a late afternoon wedding last weekend in Canmore. The weather hasn’t been fantastic lately so we checked the forecast multiple times every day leading up to the wedding, hoping the nice weather would hold.

The ceremony and reception were both held at the Quarry Bistro and Wine Bar. Lawrence was wearing a Dolce and Kara was resplendent in a white sequined DVF. We had such a great time taking pictures that we went out a second time after dark.

What a great start to spring for us! More than half of our weddings this year are out of town in places like Canmore, Banff, Lake Louise, Panorama and others. Di and I love these little trips because these places remind us of how fortunate we are to be living in this country.

monday was a beautiful day in canmore. candice and lewis got wed at the edge of quarry lake, near the nordic center. this was originally planned to be a small and very intimate exchange of vows but they couldn’t keep away the close friends and family who wanted to wish them well. small weddings always have a special place in my heart.

we’re going to miss you when you move to new zealand, guys.
